Visit to The Seeing Eye Training Center

About 1,700 persons attended Family Day at TSE in Morris-town on August 15th. The weather was great and every-one enjoyed an interesting program, good food, and learning what's new at The Seeing Eye.

The large campus of The Seeing Eye is a paradise, not just for dogs!

We visited the dormitories where students being paired with a Seeing Eye dog stay. In addition to comfortable rooms, there is a room for grooming dogs, a fitness center, library, and a computer room with Braille capability.

Students can orientate themselves to the buildings and grounds by running their fingers around the models. Dogs and their masters practice seating techniques in genuine airline seats.

Dr. Jim Kutsch, President and CEO of The Seeing Eye, welcomed the guests. He is also a former student and recipient of Seeing Eye dogs. Two other former students told of their sometimes humorous and occasionally life-saving experiences with Seeing Eye dogs.

Visiting puppy raisers were served a complimentary meal and two ice cream trucks provided dessert for all. Expert trainers demonstrated how they teach the dogs to partner with their sight impaired masters. The dogs must learn much in their four months at The Seeing Eye.

We met two former Bridgeton residents at TSE. Virginia (left) began raising puppies for TSE in 1957 and has raised 58 to date!
